Description

Interleukin 2 was discovered through its function as a T cell growth factor (TCGF). IL-2 binds to the IL-2 receptor which is expressed in T and B cells, thymocytes, and NK cells. IL-2 receptor comprises of three distinct components; cytokine-specific α-chain, and the β- and γc-subunits which are shared with the IL-15 receptor. In addition, the γc-subunit is a component of a series of other cytokine receptors belonging to the γc cytokine receptor family including IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, and IL-21 (3). IL-2 signaling may play a major role in the differentiation of regulatory T cells (4). IL-2, IL-15, and IL-7 can all support NK cell differentiation. IL-2(-/-), IL-2Rα(-/-) mice fail to exhibit significant defects in NK cell development. This data suggests that IL-2 might have a redundant role in NK cell differentiation (4).

Recommended Usage

Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by the inhibition of proliferation induced by Recombinant Rat IL-2 (Cat. No. 579502) at 2 ng/mL on HT-2 cells. ND50 range:  0.25 - 1.5 µg/mL. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.

Distribution

Activated T cells are the predominant source of IL-2 produced during immune responses.

Function
IL-2 stimulates the proliferation of T cells, induces the generation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), facilitates the proliferation of and the synthesis of immunoglobulin by B cells, and induces the generation and persistence of natural killer (NK) cells. In addition, IL-2 signaling plays a major role in the differentiation of regulatory T cells.

Related FAQs

Do you guarantee that your antibodies are totally pathogen free?

BioLegend does not test for pathogens in-house aside from the GoInVivo™ product line. However, upon request, this can be tested on a custom basis with an outside, independent laboratory.

Does BioLegend test each Ultra-LEAF™ antibody by functional assay?

No, BioLegend does not test Ultra-LEAF™ antibodies by functional assays unless otherwise indicated. Due to the possible complexities and variations of uses of biofunctional antibodies in different assays and because of the large product portfolio, BioLegend does not currently perform functional assays as a routine QC for the antibodies. However, we do provide references in which the antibodies were used for functional assays and we do perform QC to verify the specificity and quality of the antibody based on our strict specification criteria.

Does BioLegend test each Ultra-LEAF™ antibody for potential pathogens?

No, BioLegend does not test for pathogens in-house unless otherwise indicated.  However, we can recommend an outside vendor to perform this testing as needed.

Have you tested this Ultra-LEAF™ antibody for in vivo or in vitro applications?

We don't test our antibodies for in vivo or in vitro applications unless otherwise indicated. Depending on the product, the TDS may describe literature supporting usage of a particular product for bioassay. It may be best to further consult the literature to find clone specific information.
